About me and my art

Bio

Meng Woo is a Sydney based artist. I was initially trained as an architect although I do not work as one now. I realise now that the reason I studied architecture is because I liked the visual arts aspect. My art is inspired by this beautiful city, particularly the beaches, sandstone cliffs, rockpools and eucalyptus trees. In my forays to the NSW countryside I'm also inspired by the vast landscape, pastures, gorges and rivers.  In the warmer months, I can be found at the beach, where I swim and surreptitiously draw beach-goers from behind sunglasses.

Exhibitions

  • In Oct 2010, my friend Catherine Webb and I held a joint exhibition at Yuga Cafe in Glebe. It was a great success, with many of our pieces selling on opening night and afterwards. We also sold pieces after the exhibition was over from the contacts made. We were both pleasantly surprised with the interest in our work.
  • In Sept 2012, I held a solo exhibition titled "From the Desert to the Sea" also at Yuga. This was also well received.
  • In March/ April 2014, I participated in a joint exhibition with two other artists, Francesco Bova and David Cole at the Bondi Pavilion, Bondi Beach. The show was very successful and we sold over a quarter of the works on display.
This year promises to be exciting as I've been asked by my friend and art patron Coralie to visit Lord Howe Island.  Coralie has a historic collection of slides for the Lord Howe Museum and this visit may bear fruit in the form of a joint exhibition of Lord Howe photos/ paintings.
